Mat Saunders, 38, archaeologist and member of Davidson Day School’s faculty, is the founder and director of American Foreign Academic Research (AFAR), now operating under the umbrella of the school. He has been taking students to Belize on archaeological expeditions since 2006. He added Zorita Castle to the DDS/AFAR expeditions in 2014. The Spain project is unique in its combination of archaeology, arts, and building community among cultures.This summer meant full productions of both a play and a concert for the Spanish community in two locations - the 9th century Zorita Castle and The 12th century Ucles Monestary.<br />

Mat Saunders, 38, archaeologist and member of Davidson Day School’s faculty, is the founder and director of American Foreign Academic Research (AFAR), now operating under the umbrella of the school. He has been taking students to Belize on archaeological expeditions since 2006. He added Zorita Castle to the DDS/AFAR expeditions in 2014. The Spain project is unique in its combination of archaeology, arts, and building community among cultures.This summer meant full productions of both a play and a concert for the Spanish community in two locations - the 9th century Zorita Castle and The 12th century Ucles Monestary.<br />
