20110818 Debi Metcalfe, of Shelby, N.C., never meant to become an activist. She and her husband, Harold, were just another family with a few well-loved pleasure horses until September 1997, when Harold’s mare, Idaho, disappeared. In hunting for Idaho, Debi found that no structured, centralized resource for victims of horse theft existed. This was pre-Internet, so she blanketed the U.S. with fliers and reached out to every horse dealer, law enforcement officer, and auction house that would listen. And 51 weeks later, her efforts paid off. But she vowed that no other victim would have to face such a traumatic experience alone and NetPosse.com was born.
